Ways To Increase Productivity — Let’s Get Some Stuff Done

Ways To Increase ProductivityWays to increase productivity at work, as well as at home, are prevalent in many books, articles, and courses. I will review a few of these ideas in this article, but I intend to go beyond the mainstream ideas to a more simplistic approach to getting stuff done.

By breaking things down a bit we get to the real cause of any hesitation or procrastination in completing any desired daily tasks and assignments. Once the cause has been dealt with it will be clearly evident that the size of the task does not matter when we have developed a framework of success that consistently produces results.

“Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.” — Paul J. Meyer —

Ways to Increase Productivity — The More Standard Approach

Let’s review a few ideas that you will find in most productivity training books, courses, and workshops. These are all essential items that contribute to a person becoming more productive.

After we discuss a few of these strategies, we will then explore ways not only to increase our productivity but more importantly maintain the momentum that we create in an effortless fashion. We want to go beyond forcing things to get done, to getting stuff done because it makes us feel good and we want to do it.

  • Create a To-Do list
  • Eliminate distractions
  • Decrease or avoid multitasking
  • Work on important tasks when most energized
  • Delegate when possible
  • Plan based on priorities
  • Take breaks regularly
  • Exercise a bit
  • Set up rewards for completing tasks
  • Focus on one thing at a time
  • Have the right tools and equipment
  • Create realistic deadlines
  • Limit meetings

Now there are more ideas we can add to this list and they are all valuable and will produce results. Now let’s go a bit deeper and see how we can create the momentum that not only makes these strategies a reality but gets them done more effortlessly as well.

A More Effortless Approach to Increasing Productivity

In order to implement all of these great ideas to increase productivity, it is important to have clarity of why we are doing it. What is it for? Without this type of clarity, we are only going through the motions without any burning desire to get stuff done.

When we consider things unimportant or just a task to get out of the way, we are not present in the moment, and we are cheating ourselves on happiness, joy, and what we can learn from the simplest of tasks. We ignore much that is available for us right here and right now.

Rather than being resentful for having to get something completed at home or at work, we can choose to do things in the most efficient and effective way possible. By doing things in a specific way we not only get the task done, but we gain increased confidence and self-worth. We feel good about ourselves.

This type of mindset of focusing fully on the present moment, regardless of the task, increases our inner strength tremendously and propels us into greater achievements. We build a momentum of success that is based on who we have become along the way.

It is not so much about getting particular stuff done or goals achieved, as it is about the person we have become by releasing our Inner Genius, who is the real hero of our lives.

“Live like a hero. That’s what the classics teach us. Be a main character. Otherwise, what is life for?

— J.M. Coetzee —

There are no ordinary moments. Each moment is precious, and when we treat it as so, we do ourselves and others a great service by being our authentic selves.

Ways To Increase Productivity with a Hero MindsetWays To Increase Productivity

Being productive is easy when we recognize who we really are and why we are doing what we are doing. Taking stuff for granted sets us up for a vicious cycle of boredom, regret, and failure.

Instead of playing full out, we compromise ourselves and our desires and settle for less than we deserve and of what we are capable of achieving. With that type of mindset, any productivity we achieve is never enough and is not very satisfying.

When we truly understand that there is nowhere to go and nothing to get we can relax into our true being. Within our essence, not without, lies all that we could ever desire. We have it all right this moment.

It is just a matter of getting out of our own way by eliminating false ideas about ourselves, others, and the world in general so that we can naturally receive our heartfelt desires. When we do not receive we are blocking the results we desire from arriving no matter what the outer circumstances appear to be.

A hero mindset allows us to take responsibility for everything in our lives, whether we label the circumstances good or bad. By taking responsibility we free ourselves up to use our innate resources for what we desire, rather than having our power tied up in resisting, denying, and blaming.

For some of us, this may be a bitter pill to swallow, but that is only because we have not completely realized the truth about ourselves as yet. We are actually more fearful of the power we possess than any of the imagined fears and doubts that seem so real to us.

With a hero mindset, we move forward with confidence knowing it is just a matter of time for us to achieve our goals because we are being our authentic selves in the present moment, and completing each task or assignment in a specific way that leads to success. Our hero mindset creates thoughts that are in alignment with doing what is necessary to achieve our goals.

This type of mindset is all we need to increase our productivity, and enjoy the process by taking each step in the most efficient and effective way possible. Our mistakes and errors become only temporary detours on our journey. Our success is assured not by forcing things to happen, but because of who we are. It also helps to love what we do.

Have fun and enjoy the journey,

Joseph William

  1. Let’s Get Some Stuff Done – I like that.  It’s like a George Carlin’s (The Hippy Dippy Weatherman) routine about stuff.  You should look it up on YouTube.  Seriously your plan for getting tasks (another word for stuff) is right on target.  It is important to realize that the stress of not doing a task is greater than the stress associated with doing the project.  Would you agree?

    • Totally agree and I was a George Carlin fan for years. Love that Hippy Dippy Weatherman routine. He was a comedy genius with a lot of awareness.
