Why redefine the simplicity definition when it seems so “simple” as it is? Well, most things are not as apparent as they first may appear, and redefining this term is an excellent way to see this more clearly.
Let’s dig a bit below the surface and see what we find. A simple life extends beyond overwhelming distractions and creates an entryway into a different plane of existence.
In addition to providing much more peace of mind, it eliminates much of the physical and emotional baggage we have been carrying around for too long.
“I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures.”
A Simplicity Definition that Empowers our Lives
Although the standard definition of simplicity means, easy to do or understand, it is most often taken for granted because of its simplicity. That is when we allow complexity to enter.
“Progress is man’s ability to complicate simplicity.”
It is as if we just don’t believe that life can be that simple. We have been conditioned to see things in a certain way, and a large part of that involves suffering and struggle.
It seems just too good to be true when we envision a more prosperous, healthy, and abundant life.
But it does not have to be that way. With a few tweaks in our mindset, we are able to envision the life that we most desire, and it is NOT too good to be true.
We are empowered most when we allow ourselves to be who we really are without all of the limitations that we have bought into. By accepting how truth is true, we are able to forego much of the nonsense.
Simplicity is who and what we really are. The reality of ourselves is not complex at all. We are defined by our thoughts and beliefs about ourselves, which serve as a power switch to all of our innate genius.
There is nowhere to go and nothing to get because we have everything now. Once we increase our awareness enough this will be totally self-evident.
We are empowered by the simplicity of our reality minus the baggage of false beliefs.
A Simple Process of “Undoing”
When we keep things simple we are not adding anything to our lives because they are complete already regardless if we recognize this or not. It is more of a process of undoing the mistakes and errors we have made in the past.
Much of this we did unknowingly as a result of false information we have gathered, and then based our decisions on this information. Our actions then produced less-than-ideal results.
Our job is to “simply” replace our misconceptions with the truth. It is difficult to reach the desired destination when we are headed in the opposite direction.
We merely need to look at the results in different areas of our lives and ask ourselves if we are happy and satisfied with them. No need to make excuses, blame others, or deny what is there.
Brutal honesty at this point is the key to our release and freedom.
Then we can openly and honestly examine some of the ideas that have led to these results, and consciously make some changes if we so desire. The mere fact of exposing ourselves to these false beliefs is extremely empowering regardless if we initially change them or not.
Creativity as a Simplicity Definition
A great example of simplicity in the creative realm is the work of interior designer, Nancy Braithwaite. Her book “Simplicity” actually provides a stunning example of the power of simplicity in design.
For more than forty (40) years Nancy has been guided in producing fabulous designs varying from country to art deco keeping the foundational principles the same. As a luxurious minimalist, all of her work is simple and pure without any compromise.
She combines the beauty of forms with the subtlety of color demonstrating that simplicity can be lavish and opulent without an excess of any kind. Her work is an example of sheer craftsmanship in design.
This is just one example of how simplicity adds to and not detracts from the excellence of one’s life and work. We are all creative geniuses waiting to be discovered; simplicity is the key to our discovery.
Creativity sparks from the simplicity and not complexity. The more involved and complex we make things the harder it is to release our creative juices.
When we let go and trust our Genius Selves we create the space for our creativity to show up without the restraints of preconceived conditions of how it is supposed to be. This is extremely powerful stuff.
Our Simplicity Definition Redefined
We redefine the meaning of simplicity by allowing our creative juices to flow. When we are in the “Zone” so to speak our lives flow naturally on a very simple basis.
We are not tempted to make stuff up to get by as we value our time, decisions, and results. All areas of our lives become creative adventures based on keeping things simple.
At this point, we truly become aware that less is more. But the more is based on excellence and high quality.
There is no need to deprive ourselves of stuff we really want to live a more simple life. We can enjoy all the things we truly desire.
When ensuring that we are pursuing our own desires and goals and not the ones we were told were important, we then have a free hand to express our talents and abilities in areas that benefit us the most as well as make a positive contribution to others.
Eliminating the false need to look good or comply with a set of values that were made up by someone else, we ignite our authenticity, which leads to expressing ourselves in the most simple way possible.
Ironically, by doing less and focusing on the important aspects our productivity naturally increases. Simplicity leads to doing only the essential things in a way that magnifies our efforts.
Once we understand that there is no need to accumulate needless items or to follow a path that is not our own, the sooner we will embrace a life of simplicity and increase our joy and happiness as well.
A Few Helpful Hints to Get Started with a More Simple Life
1. Make a list of our priorities and focus on the most essential ones.
2. Set realistic goals and break them down into small manageable steps.
3. Simplify our daily routine by eliminating unnecessary tasks.
4. Delegate work to others when possible.
5. Eliminate some possessions and declutter our home.
6. Take time for ourselves and practice self-care and awareness.
7. Spend time with people who we enjoy being with and mutually benefit from.
8. Practice mindfulness and spend more time focused on the present moment.
9. Get organized and create systems to stay focused.
10. Let go of perfectionism and focus on progress and growth.
I look forward that embracing a much more simple existence in a very overly complicated world will lead to discovering our destiny and true purpose in life.
With our simplicity definition redefined, not only is this possible but it will be the natural result of letting go and living with passion and enthusiasm.
To a simple but fulfilling existence,
Joseph William

Hey there, it’s Boris! I just stumbled upon this post about simplicity and I have to say, it’s a topic that really resonates with me. Simplicity is something that’s often overlooked in our fast-paced and complicated world, but it’s so important for our mental health and overall well-being.
So let’s talk about simplicity. What does it mean to you? To me, it’s about stripping away all the excess and focusing on what really matters in life. It’s about having less stress, less clutter, and more time to enjoy the little things.
I’ve found that the simpler I live, the happier I am. I used to be one of those people who thought they needed everything and the kitchen sink to be happy, but I was wrong. I’ve learned that having less stuff and less responsibility actually gives me more freedom and peace of mind.
But I also understand that simplicity can be a relative term. What’s simple for me might not be simple for someone else. That’s why I think it’s important to find what works for you and stick with it. It could be downsizing your home, decluttering your schedule, or something else entirely.
So, what do you think? Have you tried simplifying your life? If so, what kind of impact has it had on you? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences on this topic. Let’s start a discussion!
Thanks so much for your insights on this topic. I have simplified my life over a gradual basis over the past several years and now find the most meaning and joy in the little everyday moments that are to be cherished and appreciated. Complexity is a red flag to indicate when we try to force things to happen rather than waiting for our “Marching Orders” from our intuitive self.

Thanks, Manisha. I very much appreciate your thoughts and comments. All the Best.
I’m a big fan of simple, clean, and modern aesthetics. Too much visual clutter becomes distracting and takes focus away from where it’s needed. However, a simple space leaves room to curate a space that inspires a helpful flow state for easier work. I’ve managed to simplify my workspace as part of a resolution for the new year, and I’m really impressed with how much of a difference it makes in how much I enjoy the space!
Sounds great, Aly. Simplicity makes room both physically and mentally/emotionally for our creativeness to have a much freer space from which to manifest. All the best.
