How To Have Clarity Of Thought

How to have clarity of thought is not an easy process by any means. We quite often underestimate the power and extent of our current conditioning.

How To Have Clarity Of Thought

We have accumulated numerous experiences over our lifetime, many of which were painful, that now contribute to how we see ourselves, others, and the world. It is exactly this conditioning that is responsible for our upside-down way of thinking.

How to Have Clarity of Thought by Accepting that We Don’t

“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”

— Carl Jung —

Before we can gain clarity in our thinking we must be aware that our thinking is currently a bit crooked. This confusion is not something to feel bad about or helpless to change.

It is this awareness and acceptance that we are not currently thinking clearly that paves the way to increased clarity. We can then experience many benefits with our clear vision.

Denial keeps us stuck when we are afraid or embarrassed to admit that we don’t know what we think we know. We just need to look at the results to determine how well our current thinking is working out for us.

We may be doing well in certain parts of our lives, while the results are less desirable in others.

When we are honest with ourselves we create the space to move forward as we are not clinging to our current state of mind. Taking responsibility for our lives is a small price to pay to live an authentic life.

Let’s now review a few steps we can take so that we regain our ability to think clearly. How to have clarity of thought involves a few simple steps.

Removing Our Obstacles to Vision

“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.”

— Helen Keller —

  • Acknowledge that we are currently blind to reality
  • Make the ability to see clearly a priority
  • Honestly assess current results in all departments of our lives
  • Desire to see things differently
  • Observe our environment and notice what we add to every object viewed based on our past experience
  • Recognize how we create our perceived view of the world
  • Embrace the present moment by asking, “Am I present now?”
  • In that present moment observe without attachment our thoughts (let go of our stories)
  • practice this daily

How to Have Clarity of Thought with Unconditional Love

“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.”

— Martin Luther King, Jr. —

Unconditional love is the basis of existence. It is the foundation of living an authentic life based on service.

Everyone is either expressing love or asking for love. Granted some of those requests can take on some insane behavior.

When we are centered in our hearts and expressing love unconditionally, we have learned how to have clarity of thought. We have let go of our resistance to loving ourselves and others.

This type of love is not reserved for special relationships. There are no limitations or conditions to loving others whether family, friends, or strangers.

We do not expect anything in return as we understand that giving is the same as receiving. Unconditional love does not change because of circumstances or any other types of conditions.

This is all about acceptance and freeing ourselves of past emotional traumas and pain. We now have the vision to see beyond any past experiences and we create anew in the present moment.

How to Have Clarity of Thought with a New Mindset

How To Have Clarity Of Thought

“Remembering what you’ve been through and how that has strengthened your mindset can lift you out of a negative brain loop and help you bypass those weak, one-second impulses to give in. Even if you’re feeling low and beat down by life right now, I guarantee you can think of a time or two when you overcame odds and tasted success.”

— David Goggins —

We all have experienced many challenges in life, and when dealing with a painful situation it is hard to remember those times when we succeeded. When we are most challenged, we need to remind ourselves of our past successes.

To accomplish this we cannot use the same thought process that created the challenges in the first place. By recognizing this we can then decide to change things up a bit.

Extending our comfort zone so that we can make these changes is never easy. Resistance will be high for a while, but with consistent effort, change will occur.

The hardest part is starting. We will come up will every excuse we can find to keep things as they are. Since we are so good at doing this all these excuses will make perfect sense to us.

It’s all about taking that first step and gaining some momentum. The information in this prior blog post on stepping into success will help tremendously.

Once we gain some momentum our desire will increase and we will want to continue as our clarity of thought increases. Then it is just a matter of taking the next step as we begin to trust ourselves more and are intuitively led instead of trying to figure things out with the same thinking that created our challenges in the first place.

Each challenge is a gift that has been put in place to strengthen us as well as indicate that we can improve in this area of life. As our clarity of thought increases this will become blatantly apparent.

When stuck take the smallest step possible in our desired direction, no matter how ridiculously insignificant it may seem. At that point, what is most important is the decision to do something.

Results will come as we continue to gain momentum in our desired direction, and eventually, we will pass the point of no return. In other words, we will naturally progress with no thought of giving up.

Although how to have clarity of thought is a challenging process in itself, it is a journey we all deserve to take. This is a gift we give ourselves and can then make a positive impact in the lives of others by sharing our gift.

I encourage all to gain the clarity of thought that leads to living authentic lives based on sharing our unique talents and abilities.

In Peace and Love within the Light,

Joseph William

  1. Hey Joseph!

It’s great to dive into this fascinating topic of gaining clarity of thought. As you point out in his insightful article, our thinking can often be clouded by past conditioning and painful experiences. It takes real awareness and honesty to recognize when our perception is distorted.

I love how you emphasize that the first step is simply acknowledging our current lack of clarity, without judgment. It’s not about feeling bad, but accepting where we are so we can move forward. Denial only keeps us stuck.

Joseph, you outline some powerful steps to regain clear thinking – things like making it a priority, assessing our results objectively, observing how our mind colours our perceptions, and most importantly, learning to be fully present.

You touch on the transformative power of unconditional love. When we come from a place of openhearted acceptance, so much of our mental static falls away. We see reality more clearly.

I’m also struck by your point about remembering our past successes when we feel defeated by challenges. Reconnecting with our inner strength and resilience can break a negative thought loop.

Overall, cultivating clarity is a journey of self-awareness, presence and love. Not always easy, but so worthwhile.

Have you experienced benefits from applying any of these practices in your own life? \

I’d love to hear your perspective!

    • Thanks, Eric, for your many comments and insights. I have benefited greatly by applying these strategies in my life. It’s been a lifetime process of observing and identifying my misguided thoughts and feelings and tracing them back to my core beliefs. It’s an ongoing process that never ends and we are all teachers and students to each other. All the very Best, Joseph

  2. Hi Joseph,

This is such an important and informative article.

One way that I have helped myself in becoming more clear in my thoughts and my vision is to exercise more. I feel that by exercising at least 5 days a week, my mind and my body is becoming a lot stronger.

If you think of the best athletes in the world, they all seem to have the strongest mindsets as well as the strongest bodies. Especially when they focus on their event or discipline.

My event or discipline is leadership writing and coaching, so if I can be the most focussed I can be when carrying out these disciplines then that will make me the happiest.

Thank you for sharing Joseph, I love your article. Keep them coming my friend.

    All the best,

    Tom

  3. This really resonated with me. It’s so true that our past experiences and conditioning can cloud our thinking more than we realize. 🤔

One thing that got me thinking – when was the last time you challenged your own thoughts to see if they’re holding you back? Sometimes a little mental spring cleaning can do wonders! 💭✨

So, what’s your take on breaking free from old thought patterns and embracing clearer thinking in your daily life? Any quirky tips or tricks up your sleeve? 😄

  4. “Thank you for this profound article, Joseph. Your exploration of clarity of thought truly resonated with me. The idea that we must first acknowledge our current mental conditioning and embrace the discomfort of not knowing is so powerful. It’s a humbling reminder that growth begins with self-awareness and honesty. I also appreciated your emphasis on unconditional love and its role in achieving clarity—how love, in its purest form, can guide us toward a more authentic and purpose-driven life.
