How To Adapt With Change When Things Just Don’t Make Sense

Many times in life, things get so whacked out that adapting is the farthest thing from our minds. We are just trying to get by and survive.

At this point, it’s important to take a step back and reflect on what is going on, and then respond, rather than react, to the situation. This puts us in charge of making a conscious choice or decision in resolving the challenge, rather than feeling victimized and reacting based on our default conditioning.


Things don’t have to make sense on the surface for us to make good decisions based on reality rather than perception. We have the power within ourselves to resolve any difficulty or problem.

What is Adapt — What Does It Really Mean?

The basic or more traditional meaning of adapt is to adjust to a situation by altering our approach, behavior, or methods to suit the current environment or circumstances. This is all well and good as long as we have an accurate assessment of those circumstances so that we are addressing the correct challenge.

Many times we “assume” what a situation is about, and when not correct, we are then making adjustments and decisions based on faulty information. We not only do not solve the problem but very often exacerbate the situation.

We can best adapt and make constructive and beneficial changes when we take the time to research the situation fully so that we have an accurate understanding of what needs adjustment. Then are we not only more willing to adapt, but we feel good about it as well.

How To Adapt With Change Now Not Later

It is so easy to procrastinate and put things off when challenges and roadblocks appear. This disempowers us and reinforces the habit of not getting stuff done in an efficient, effective, and timely way.

When resistance appears, it’s critical not to resist the resistance. Let if flow right through without paying undue attention by panicking or freaking out.

We then can use this resistance to alert us to the limiting beliefs and perceptions that are in our way from getting stuff done when we desire to do them. Our feelings and thoughts will reveal this to us when we pay attention.

An additional benefit is the realization that all of this powerful change takes place in the present moment. This reminds us that we are only fully conscious when we are focused on the present moment where our true power resides.

This is much more than theory; this becomes blatantly evident when we experience the feeling of being present. In the now, we are protected from outside influences as well as from our memories of the past that often haunt our efforts.

Since only the now exists it is our gift to ourselves to maintain awareness of that “present” or gift.

This is when we are dancing with life in harmonious ways as all doubt and uncertainty dissipate into their true nothingness. Now let’s set forth a few practical steps to “allow” this to happen.

When we learn to enjoy the process of change life is simplified. Stress and anxiety are lessened and finally eliminated.

Here are a few steps to consider:

  1. Patience is Required — time and effort in this direction is a blessing in disguise. Our determination and persistence will be greatly rewarded with increased joy, happiness, and the certainty that we are able to handle whatever experiences and challenges may come our way.
  2. Open the Lines of Communication — not only is there value in communicating with others by sharing our feelings,  thoughts, and ideas, but our inner communication is vital as well. Our intuitive insights will provide many ways for us to navigate our pathways to the changes we most desire.
  3. Stay Flexible — each step we take in the direction of the change we desire will provide additional insights and ideas on how we can best navigate our route. This most likely will require us to adjust our expectations and plans, which is a very good thing.
  4. Focus on Self-Care — it is most important to be nice to ourselves through this process realizing this is a learning experience that is transforming our outlook on ourselves and life. As we progress we become mentally and emotionally stronger in our ability to deal with challenges in creative ways that also enhance our physical well-being as well.
  5. Seek Support as Needed — help and guidance is available through numerous outlets. Family, friends, and professionals are available to provide advice, comfort, resources, and encouragement.
  6. Be Proactive — plan and prepare for any anticipated changes in life as early as possible. It is much better to be prepared so that we are much more confident in handling the situation if and when it occurs.
  7. Be Realistic — don’t expect too much of ourselves too quickly when we are learning to adapt in ways with which we are not familiar. Break down things down to the smallest steps necessary to break the inertia and get started in the needed direction. By doing this we stay inspired and focused to continue no matter what detours may be necessary along the way.
  8. Self-Growth — take advantage of all opportunities to learn new skills and gain knowledge that increases our effectiveness in all areas of our lives.
  9. Stay Focused and Positive — beginning any new endeavor is never easy especially when we are emotionally tied to the result. When we are this aligned we are guided by the intuitive insight that provides our Marching Orders as needed. When not sure what to do we wait for our inner guidance and then proceed with confidence.

This makes our journey through life not only enjoyable but truly meaningful as we are an example to others that change is our friend and the journey is a gift.

We will always have new goals and objectives to achieve but it is our evolvement along the way that is all so satisfying. Each day and moment is precious and to be cherished with a heart full of gratitude.
