Retirement Ideas — Things To Do

Let’s brainstorm some retirement ideas that are practical and can make any retirement something to be cherished and enjoyed. Sliding into retirement without any purpose or plan can be a very frustrating experience especially when confronted with many challenges including boredom.Retirement Ideas

We have conditioned ourselves throughout our lives to be active and take on projects whether they be a business, job, or hobby. Retirement is definitely not about just laying back or not being engaged. It is a time to enjoy, stay engaged, and continue to expand our skills and capabilities.

Retirement Ideas — Defining our Purpose

“Your life is your canvas, and you are the masterpiece. There are a million ways to be kind, amazing, fabulous, creative, bold, and interesting.”

— Kerli —

Everyone is at a different stage in terms of approaching retirement. Many retire young, others when their social security and retirement plans kick in, and still others, like myself, choose to remain un-retired to pursue both personal and business challenges that are in alignment with my goals and core values.

We each have a strong inner purpose to excel and express the genius part of ourselves whether we realize this or not. It is just a matter of digging a bit to discover what that purpose is. Some already have made that discovery earlier in life, but it is never too late to bring this life-enhancing quality to the surface.

In order to ignite this process, we may have to spend some quiet time with ourselves allowing our thoughts to run freely with the intention of finding what is most important to us, and what we want to share with others in making a positive difference. There is such a need in the world right this moment for leaders and influencers who are authentic and come from their hearts.

A walk in nature, a few minutes in meditation, writing freely with no structure other than what surfaces intuitively, and always carrying paper and pen or a small notebook to jot down these ideas when they occur. Don’t hesitate to write them down as ideas tend to float away rather quickly. I would also suggest writing in a daily journal.

Doing this on a consistent basis will produce results over time. Once we are aware of what our true purpose is, we are now in a position to design a meaningful and impactful retirement. We have created our foundation.

Planting the Seeds

All of us have the purpose to excel in life, make a positive difference, and discover our genius selves. We each express that in our own unique ways that are the special gifts that only we can offer. We are each blessed in different ways.

Regardless of what it is we truly desire, we can attain it by planting the seeds of our own unique purpose and skills. Discovering our true purpose, and actually living from that purpose makes such a wonderful difference in our lives. When we are purpose-driven we are inspired to express our unique gifts to the world.

Boredom becomes a thing of the past. When we share our gifts we have positioned ourselves to receive all that we may desire and more. We are in the “flow” of life.

Let’s plant some seeds today that will grow and expand as we water those seeds with our enhancing thoughts and feelings. This all results in a positive self-fulfilling prophecy.

Retirement Ideas — Some Practical Steps

We are all capable of living life fully whether we are retired or at any other stage of life. It is a choice based on our true desire to expand our reach in contributing all that we have to offer in our service to others. It’s amazing that when we focus on helping others our own challenges don’t seem so large and many times just dissolve away.

From a practical standpoint, there are just so many alternatives. Here’s an article from U.S. News that will stimulate your brain cells a bit, and get you thinking in different directions.

The key here is to understand that there are options available to live a full and interesting life or to expand on the wonderful life that we already have. It is just a matter of being open to finding those options or solutions.

In the health area, integrative medicine has made tremendous inroads for several years now where allopathic and natural methods come together to treat the whole person. Taking into account the lifestyle of the person, healing and well-being are promoted encompassing the mind, body, and spirit.

Money may or may not be an issue during retirement. Here’s an article on Overcoming Financial Challenges that provides many good insights and practical ways to proceed.

Personally, over the years I have always listened to my intuition and pursued creative ways to overcome many challenges including finances. This has led me to dig deep and discover my strengths and weaknesses and how I can best create income vehicles that I enjoy doing so that earning money was not a hassle but just part of the flow of my life.

This led me to online marketing and discovering ways to create content that is interesting and a benefit to others. We are each different but there is a natural flow to all our lives, and it is up to us to discover it, and then go with that flow. For those interested in online marketing, here’s my review of an excellent Online Training Platform.

So Many Retirement Ideas — Now What?Retirement Ideas

Now it’s time to get out pen and paper, or preferably a journal that you can use daily to jot down ideas and track your progress. Do your research and due diligence from a logical standpoint, but also listen carefully to intuitive insights that will begin to spring up here and there when you least expect it. That’s why it is important to carry around a small notebook or at least pieces of paper to jot these ideas down because they don’t hang around long.

After a few days, you will have enough info in order to test out some of your ideas and see what works and what doesn’t for you. This is an ongoing process and you will know when you need to take a detour or two.

Above all else make this a fun adventure. If it is not fun, don’t do it. Life is too short to stay stuck in struggle and pain. Peace and contentment are what we all deserve, and we just need to learn how to be open ourselves to receive.

Happily ever after is Now no matter our age. Let’s live life fully with gusto and be an amazing example for others of what is possible. I look forward to your happiness and success.

Live with Enthusiasm,

Joseph William

  1. The world has changed so much from what it looked like when many of today’s retirees first started their careers. It’s great that even after a full career in one arena, it’s possible to pivot to working on new fun things and making a new career out of that passion(s). Thanks for providing some guidance and tools for making an exciting leap into the next chapters!

  2. Like most young people I’ve never really worried about retirement. That is until now! When I realised that I am half way through my working life it dawned on me that in a blink of an eye I’ll be there.  In my industry I’ve seen so many people retire and it’s like life has come to an end, it’s sad to see, especially when they’ve been so active for 50+ yrs.

I like the idea this website offers, to think about what you want to achieve after working for so long. It really put things into perspective and has given me a lot to think about. It’s never too early to start planning.

    • Thanks, Andrew for your insights. I agree that it is never too early to plan things out as well as enjoy things as they are or make any desired changes. As I often say, “when you love what you do why retire?”. All the best.

  3. With so much time on hand during retirement, it is good to get involved in some sort of activity staying busy, this helps this time to be fulfilling with purpose so why stop doing what you love doing or why do nothing at all when retirement can also be a great part of your life as you enjoy those golden years!
